Special Presentation at 10 am in the Parlor Room

Joanelle Mulrain, Wentworth Woodhouse Ambassador, will make a special presentation about the £5m heritage restoration of The Camellia House on the Wentworth Woodhouse estate in England. Originally built in 1738 as a Georgian tea pavilion for Lady Rockingham, wife of the 1st Marquess, it was extended in 1812 to serve as an orangery for the collection of camellias, one of the first homes for camellias in the Western World. She will speak on its roofless ruin – where the camellias reached 30’ high – turned into a community asset for a lovely restaurant and event space. A delicate renovation due to its age and post-war and onsite open-cast mining, it had settled, requiring a delicate plan to install refurbished trusses with new glass panes, repair or renewing of roof timbers, stonework, doors, lime plaster and ceilings, three-tiered fountain, and developing a rainwater harvesting system, while keeping the original floor and entrance door.
